UV-Licht – der Feind in meinem Kleiderschrank

UV light – the enemy in my wardrobe

Inexplicable discoloration, rapid patina formation, dry leather, fading colors - do you know this? Suddenly it's there, the problem with your favorite bag. But what happened? It was just standing in the closet!

In recent years, walk-in wardrobes have become a real hype. Clothes, bags and accessories are lovingly and decoratively presented in them - almost like in our beloved luxury stores. In addition to wrinkles in the leather and the loss of shape stability, the biggest enemy of your bag is probably the UV light from our sun, which destroys the chemical bonds in color pigments and thus reduces the color intensity. You can imagine this as a reverse sunburn: UV rays are absorbed, which we then perceive as fading.

UV light causes leather to age more quickly, causing it to dry out and become porous. Unlike our skin, which replaces dead cells with new ones, leather cannot regenerate. If the leather is already brittle or porous, even the best leather care products reach their limits and can only help to a limited extent. That almost sounds like a horror story, doesn't it?

What does this mean for us? Often the window in the room where the open wardrobe is located is overlooked. This allows UV light to penetrate unhindered and causes our beloved treasures to age, discolor, fade and dry out.

To prevent this, I recommend applying UV protection film to the window panes. With just a few euros and a little time, you can quickly put an end to the problem and enjoy your treasures again without worry.
